5 Tips For Restaurant Social Media

Standard

FBPataconimage

Does your restaurant have a Facebook or Twitter? What about an Instagram account? If the answer to these questions is no or your accounts are inactive, your restaurant may be missing out on valuable opportunities to connect with your fans and potential customers alike.

In this age of technology, you probably already know that social media networks can give your restaurant free publicity if done right, but maybe you just don’t know what to post.

We can help with that. Here are our top 5 tips on how to get your restaurant’s social media up and running:

1) Start Thinking Like Your Customers

An important part of using social media as a business tool is thinking about who you’re communicating to and using that to drive your decisions on posts. Do your customers love your specials? Go ahead and post about them. Developing a tone that attracts the customers you want to attract and highlights what you want to be known for.

2) Post Regularly

Customers, especially your regulars, want to keep up with you. Think of your accounts as the news pages for your restaurant. Got a new item, special, or special event? This is content that will add value to your accounts and will encourage to keep checking your pages.

3) Post Pictures

Posts with pictures are more likely to be shared or liked by your customers. So go ahead and share those amazing pictures of your food!

Start by using Instagram to upload photos and to edit so your food looks its best. You can also add hashtags, including those specific to your area, to bring customers who may be just blocks away to your restaurant. Facebook’s intergration with Instagram makes it easy to share your pictures to your page if you were planning to use that picture as part of a longer post. Other great ideas for photos to share are of employees and customers at your restaurant (with their permission, of course).

4) Add Facebook Ordering to your Page

Facebook Ordering makes getting food from your restaurant more convinient for your customers. On average, 128 million people spend about 46 minutes on Facebook. With the highest traffic period being from 1 to 3 PM, there’s a good chance they’re hungry too.

5) Encourage Customer Engagement

It is not enough just to post about your restaurant on social media. Another key to success on social media is encouraging your customers to like, share and comment on your posts. There are many ways you can do this: contests on social media, replying to social mentions, using hashtags and asking your customers about their opinion.

We hope these tips have given you a few ideas to drive your restaurant’s success on social media. If you’re interested in getting started with Facebook ordering, check us out!

So your Restaurant has an App… Now What?

Standard

According to the Pew Research Center, more than 58% of Americans own a smartphone as of January 2014. After the release of the latest iPhone, the number is estimated to be around 67%. This means that over half of Americans have access to your restaurants app, depending on your development. This is an astounding market.

OrderEm

That is a lot of potential customers. You have your development team construct an app, or you have someone local build it for you. You have this awesome, streamlined app, like the ones we build here at MunchEm, and now you need to market it.

Here are a couple of ways to get it out there to your customers:

OrderEm online ordering custom websites and custom apps

At OrderEm we deliver high-quality restaurant websites, apps, and online food ordering.

Advertise it near the entrance or on the windows.

It is easy to make a poster, or have one printed. Put the details about your app and stick it on the door so it is at eye level. You want your app to be front and center, it will allow your customers to carry around your restaurant with them.

Put something on the table!

If you put something on the table, whether it be a paper tent, or a flip stand with specials and app details on it, put something on the table to show your customers that you have an app. Make it clean, front and center.

Implement some space on your menu.

Include your app on your menu. If you decide to put it in there, put it on the first couple of pages, preferably on the front, in the lower third. Include any details you want: i.e., platform, what a person can do with it, QR code.

Distribute it nearby.

Are there any hotels near your restaurant? Go to them and ask if you can leave them some flyers on their front desk, or hand out flyers to their guests.

Remember that your app can be used for a variety of things, but should be used primarily for to-go ordering. You cannot supplement your app for sit-down business, but you can bolster your business in general with it.

MunchEm is breaking up… sort of. MunchEm and OrderEm

Standard

As a company, MunchEm, we serve two major customer groups: restaurants and their hungry customers. Previously we had been using MunchEm as the face for both of these customer groups. Going forward we are restructuring our branding more effectively to market to each group. Our goal is to create and provide unique and relevant content for each customer group through this restructuring. We want you, the restaurant or hungry customer, to think of happiness when you think of MunchEm.

To make this transition easier, we are splitting up MunchEm in to MunchEm and OrderEm.

MunchEm

With MunchEm, we are focused on feeding and informing local customers. We want to deliver a simple and intuitive online ordering process, all within a local area. We love eating local and we would like for you to do the same. Ditch the chains and support local!

As a customer, you can order delicious food from over 100 Orlando restaurants, and we are expanding to other cities in Florida: including, but not limited to, Gainesville, Tampa, Miami, and Jacksonville. From these places, you can have them deliver your food, or you can go in and pick it up. With MunchEm, you can view restaurant menus for these restaurants, all from your computer or our app on your phone. Our app is available on Apple, Android, and Windows devices.

In conjunction with delivering you awesome food, we also try to deliver you some awesome content through our social media. We try to keep you abreast of what is going on in the Orlando area. We also give out coupons through our social media, so you can get a deal while sitting there. Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube

 OrderEm

Now this is where the biggest change is. Before, we used to just deal with restaurants and customer through MunchEm. Now, we have split that up to feature OrderEm, which only deals with restaurants. This is to ease things up and reduce the bottleneck we had going on in communication. Hopefully this streamlines the process for you!

OrderEm empowers the restaurant owner through a web and mobile ordering platform. We can provide a local restaurant with a custom app. People can order your food on the go and your app will be featured across all three platforms for phones. OrderEm can also make a website for you that will feature your location, menu, and a blog if you’d like. Along with an app and website, we offer a pretty unique service. We have made it so that your customers can order from your restaurant Facebook page. Basically, if you have any way to reach your customer, we can make an ordering platform for it. Not only do we have these outlets, but also they have proven to be effective tools to the restaurants that have signed up with us.

OrderEm is also active on social media. We post deals, and some great stories, along with blogs on our Facebook and Twitter.

So, to conclude, we have broken up… sort of.

Importance of Online Ordering, If you don’t have it, get it now!

Standard

Being online or not is as important as having a telephone in your restaurant or not. Having online food ordering can turn your business from “scraping-by” to “paying the rent early.” Online ordering can turn your lunch counter from a “dust-bowl” in to a “thriving oasis” where people come in to pick up their food. Going from having zero online ordering to having your menu posted online greatly increases your chances of someone coming in or, at least discovering your establishment.

YelpMenuNow, there is one thing between having your menu posted online and then having online ordering. If you just have your menu posted online, you should have about a 20% broader reach than compared to the conventional methods. So, in tandem with handing out your restaurant menu to office parks, you should post your menu online. You can do this on your own website, your social media sites, or social-food sites like Yelp. Doing this also increases your ability for new customers to find your restaurant through the idea of search engine optimization.

To bring yourself to that next level, your restaurant should implement online ordering, ordering through an app, or even Facebook ordering. You can reach so many local customers through this mean. Think of it as advertising and a revenue stream all in one. With online ordering, you will serve more customers, thus earning you more money. Plus, when people order food from online, the average ticket order received from an online purchase is about 12-17% more. You can even accompany your online listed items with photos, so the customer knows what they are getting, and will be more likely to order it.

With app ordering, you are constantly with your customer. They carry you around with them in your pocket and are just a couple of button pushes away from delicious food. It is important when having an app, to have it on both the Apple and Android platforms. This will ensure maximum coverage. Also, make sure that your app is linked to your website, so that customers know that they can order from it.

FacebookOrdering

Another newer innovation is Facebook ordering. This is useful because it can be connected to your business Facebook page, in one of the clickable boxes at the top of your page. People can find photos of your food; get hungry, and order, all on the same page. It makes sense to implement this, as well as online and app food ordering.

OrderEm online ordering custom websites and custom apps

What is a Bad Social Media Account?

Standard

Having a Social Media impact is important for any local business and restaurant. Not only does it connect you to the community, but it also increases your Internet presence. This is an extremely positive thing for your business because it increases your reach. If you are located in Orlando, like we are, this influence from the internet will help you because this town has such a large influx of new potential customers all times of the year.

So along with having a website, it is important to have a great Social Media presence. Hopefully you can, by staying away from not what to do.

Bad Social Media is really easy to accomplish and it is hard to remove yourself from. Twitter deactivation and deleted comments by celebrities make the news, but these people are not in contact with their customers. You are, so you have to use Social Media with your mind, and not let your emotions and beliefs cloud your presence.

Bad Social Media and How to Avoid it:

An inactive account

step3-gotopageandclickedit

This is probably the most common Bad Social Media practice that happens. While it is not as bad as others, it just shows a lack of motivation. Nobody will like your page because you aren’t producing any content. It is easy to integrate food photos, or updates with specials, so just keep that in mind.

An overactive account

Annoying Social Media Habit

This is the absolute opposite problem of the one listed above. This type of account is categorized as spam and annoying to people. This results in people losing contact because they will unlike or unfollow you and have a negative taste in their mouth about your business. Try to stay away from this, because can lose you customers. Either scheduling posts or tweets, and limit your shares and retweets. If you do share or retweet, schedule it for a later time.

A personal business account

Leave your personal beliefs at the door

If you have a Social Media account for your business, just realize it as such. This is a place to promote your business, not your personal beliefs. Make sure your are not mixing the two. There is a caveat, if you are targeting that market, one with similarly held beliefs, and then it is fine to do that. Just make sure you know your marketing and strategy.

Arguing

Don't fight on Social Media accounts

It is easy to lose your cool, but don’t do it on your social media account. Act as if the customer is the one in your store, talking to you. Make sure to remedy the situation and give yourself some positive PR. Do not argue with the customer, it will only make you look bad. If you want more information about this read here.

We here at MunchEm and OrderEm try to give local restaurant owners, and business owners, the best information we can. If you find any errors, or want to give us something to discuss, feel free to leave a comment. Make sure to eat local!
